News and Events
On February 25th 2021, SISSA organised the “Student Day” in a digital format. Michele Giugliano and his colleagues animated a panel discussing a dialogue between artificial and biological neurons. This discussion panel was aimed at high-school students from participating schools, disseminating the latest discoveries in the fields of neuroscience and machine learning.
Watch it here:
On February 23rd 2021, Simona Cerrato (SISSA Medialab) and Michele GIUGLIANO (SISSA) have been guests of the radio show RADAR from the Italian Rai broadcasting. We announced the forthcoming SISSA's Student Day and the science dialogue between silicon neurons and biological neurons, featured at that event.
Listen to it here:
On January 20th 2021, Michele GIUGLIANO (SISSA) was live, hosted by Alessio Vissani, on the Eureka! weekly science podcast of the italian magazine Lega Nerd.
Watch it here:
Lega Nerd is a well known Italian magazine of “nerd/geek” youngster culture in Italy, established more than 10 years ago. It is based on crowdsourcing and characterised by an informal and friendly style.
On January 14th 2021, Michele Giugliano (SISSA) and Valentina Perrera (SISSA) organised together with the entire IN-FET consortium a workshop on Scientific Communication and Responsible Research and Innovation.
Watch it again below, in case you missed it!
On November 6th 2020, Michele Giugliano (SISSA) and Renaud Jolivet (UNIGE) (remotely) participated to a workshop on AI, Neuroscience and Policy, organised by members of the Marie Curie Alumni Association.
Have you missed it? Read a summary of the workshop here or watch again the session below!!
On September 2nd 2020, the IN-FET consortium organised a science outreach event at the Science in the city festival, focusing on Nanotechnologies and Nanoelectronics to Cure the Brain. Michele Giugliano (SISSA), Pierpaolo Palestri (IUNET-UNIUD), and Luca Selmi (IUNET-UNIMORE) gave three brief talks chaired and moderated by Valentina Perrera (SISSA).
Check the festival's website to discover the programme or watch again our event below!!
In the June 24th 2020 issue of the Italian Panorama magazine, the IN-FET project was featured, with a brief interview to Michele Giugliano (SISSA) on future novel treatments for Parkinson.
The Webmagazine of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia gave coverage to the IN-FET project!
On February 13th 2020, Michele Giugliano (SISSA) contributed to the SISSA for Schools programme, participating to the Open Day for School Students.
Watch again the coverage of the event by the Italian National Broadcasting TV (RAI), where Michele Giugliano was very briefly interviewed !!

Openings: Two postdoctoral positions in cellular electrophysiology and neurobiology.
Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately at the Neuroscience Area of SISSA - the International School for Advanced Studies, in the lab of Neuronal Dynamics head by Dr. Michele GIUGLIANO.
Both positions are covered for up to 38 months each, on an EC-Horizon 2020 funded project called “Ionic Neuromodulation For Epilepsy Treatment (IN-FET)”. This project combines neurobiology, nanotechnologies, electrochemistry, and electronics together towards a novel breakthrough technology in brain modulation.
At SISSA, we aim at experimentally validating novel routes for cellular and microcircuit stimulation or suppression, in collaboration with a consortium of partners which includes IBM Research Zurich, the University of Geneva, the University of Sheffield, and the Inter-university consortium for Nanoelectronics.
We thus search for experts in in vitro electrophysiology (substrate-integrated microelectrode arrays) and patch-clamp recordings (dissociated cell cultures, acute and organotypic brain tissue slices) with a strong background in quantitative data analysis and an interest for interdisciplinary research.
The deadline for the application is 28/05/2020 and this link to apply.
